Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Rd, Waynesboro -- Pet adoptions, dog licenses, pet cemetery -- open from 10 am to 4:30 pm Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri, and Sat. (closed Sun and Wed). To reach the shelter, go east on Route 16 (Main St.) to the traffic signal at Pizza Hut. Turn right onto Clayton Ave., go 1/2 mile to Fifth Street and turn left (Fifth St. becomes Route 997, State Hill Road). At the bottom of the hill, turn right onto Lyons Rd. Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, MD commemorates the American Civil War Battle of Antietam that occurred on September 17, 1862. Open year-round, this national treasure of more than 3,200 acres encompasses an 8-1/2 mile driving tour.

Waynesboro Area Human Services Council, 24 E. Main St, Waynesboro -- Coordinates a wide variety of human services needed by the residents of Waynesboro and Greencastle-Antrim Area School Districts. Help is given to eligible clients who qualify in a variety of individual and family crisis situations in obtaining emergency food, clothing, diapers, and many other forms of assistance. Franklin County Children and Youth Service (FCCYS) is the local public child welfare agency responsible for assuring the safety and well-being of dependent and abused children from birth to age 18 years.
