Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library, 45 E. Main St, Waynesboro (rear entrance photograph below), has many programs for children and the community, four public access computers, and a large collection of items in its Pennsylvania Room and Civil War Room.  Library hours are Mon-Thu, 9:30 to 8; Fri 9:30 to 5; and Sat 9 to 4 (Jul-Aug hours are 9 to 1).  The library website page is http://www.ahmfl.org/.   762-3335

The "Friends of the Library" provides supplemental funding for special purchases, events, and other programs; conducts two semi-annual book sales, and maintains a continuous  in-the-hallway used-book sale.  If you are not already a Friend of the Library, stop by the front desk or call and ask for an application--it explains what Friends do to help and why you should be a Friend, too.  An annual membership (Jan. 1 to Dec. 31) costs as little as $5.00.

Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Rd, Waynesboro -- Pet adoptions, dog licenses, pet cemetery -- open from 10 am to 4:30 pm Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri, and Sat. (closed Sun and Wed).  To reach the shelter, go east on Route 16 (Main St.) to the traffic signal at Pizza Hut.  Turn right onto Clayton Ave., go 1/2 mile to Fifth Street and turn left (Fifth St. becomes Route 997, State Hill Road). At the bottom of the hill, turn right onto Lyons Rd.  The shelter is 1/2 mile on the right.  The shelter's "Pet of the Week" is featured in the Record Herald every Saturday.  2008 marked AHS's 32nd year of caring for the stray and unwanted animals in our community.  Email is ahsinc@zoomlynx.com.  Phone 762-9091, FAX 762-0996

Northside Pool  in Waynesboro opens May 23, 2009.  Hours are Mon.-Sat. from 11 am to 7 pm; Sun. from 12:00 noon to 7 pm.  The pool is designed for lap swimming, and has water slides, sprinklers, lights, and picnic tables.  Smoking is not permitted within the fenced area.  A photo ID system is used.  Complete information at http://www.waynesboropa.org/northside.htm .  Pool phone is 762-7928.

Waynesboro Area Human Services Council, 24 E. Main St, Waynesboro -- Coordinates a wide variety of human services needed by the residents of Waynesboro and Greencastle-Antrim Area School Districts.  Help is given to eligible clients who qualify in a variety of individual and family crisis situations in obtaining emergency food, clothing, diapers, and many other forms of assistance.  Individuals needing help should call a community services coordinator at 762-6941, Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 3:30 pm.

Waynesboro Hospital, 501 E. Main St, Waynesboro, is an affiliate of Summit Health.  It is a 64-bed, non-profit, general and acute care community hospital.  A unique feature of the Emergency Department is the Chest Pain Evaluation Center which evaluates patients with undiagnosed chest pain who may be experiencing a heart attack.  Waynesboro Hospital’s Emergency Department provides 24-hour advanced life support coverage for the Waynesboro, Greencastle, and surrounding areas through Medic II.  More information at Summit's website.  765-4000

Children Nutrition Program--WICWomen, Infants and Children Nutrition Program (WIC) has been helping families in PA for more than 30 years.  WIC provides milk, eggs, cheese, peanut butter, beans, cereal, juice, and formula at no cost.  You can have a job or be unemployed.  You can be married, single, or live with your parents.  Fathers, mothers, guardians, or grandparents may apply for children under age five.  Who can participate in this program?  Infants and children under age five; women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or recently had a baby.  Online, WIC is located at http://www.pawic.com/ .  Eligibility requirements and how to apply for WIC benefits can be obtained from its office in Waynesboro, 230 S. The YMCA (the Waynesboro area YMCA) at 810 E. Main St, Waynesboro, must be one of the most-frequented public-use facilities in Waynesboro.  The $2.3 million YMCA building expansion renovation has been completed.  The new wellness center opened for use on July 11, 2007.  Improvements were made in security and for persons with special needs; other changes include a computer center and an additional multi-purpose room.  The wellness center, now located in the front of the building, includes new exercise and weight training machines, and a new 8-machine speed circuit for a 20-minute total body workout.  The YMCA website is  http://waynesboroymca.org/page.php?page=home .  Phone 762-6012.
