A.  The Waynesboro Day Care Center is licensed through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.  We have also achieved a Four Star rating (the highest possible) through the Keystone STARS Child Care Quality Program.

Q.  What educational qualifications, training, and experience do the caregivers have?  Are they qualified to perform CPR or provide first aid?

A.  Dealt with separately, as described below.

Education

We have 10 employees attending college this semester!

Masters.......................one Group Supervisor
BS/BA......................... our Director
AA..............................two Group Supervisors
High school diploma + ....seven Assistant Group Supervisors
High school diploma........eleven AGSs/Aides

Training

Pennsylvania requires 6 training hours per year.  Our participation in the STARS program requires three more training hours, for a total of 9 hours each year.  Most of our staff goes beyond this minimum number of required hours.  (One staff member has over 40 hours, not counting college class hours, which puts her over 130 training hours!)

Experience

Four employees have 0-2 years, 7 employees 2-5 years, 5 employees 5-10 years, and 6 employees 10 or more.  The cumulative total exceeds 100 years of experience.  Several employees have each been at the Center for more than 10 years!

CPR/First Aid

Fourteen staff members are certified in both CPR and pediatric first aid.

Q.  How much staff turnover is there?

A.  We have our share of turnover but with many employees having a service record of more than 10 years, we have good retention.  We are working hard to raise salaries, increase benefits, and provide bonuses or merit raises to achieve even better retention.

Q.  What are the discipline practices?

A.  We believe that good discipline is positive and non-threatening, that it works to increase the children's respect for themselves, that it encourages them to become responsible for their own actions, and to respect the rights and feelings of others.  The teachers use a variety of positive guidance techniques to encourage self-control.  The staff strives to be consistent, positive, and understanding of individual needs.

Q.  Are surprise visits and input from parents encouraged?

A.  Yes!  A quality child care program is a team effort which involves everyone.  We look forward to working with you and your family.  We encourage parents to participate by sharing ideas and concerns, visiting us, and participating in our programs, conferences, and informal meetings.

Q.  Are meals provided?

A.  Yes!  Every day we provide a nutritious breakfast, a hot lunch, and an afternoon snack. We participate with and meet the criteria of the Child and Adult Care Food Program of the Department of Agriculture.

Q.  What child care or day care services do you provide if my child goes to public school?

A.  We collaborate with the school system and provide transportation to most area schools.  Depending on your work schedule, we can provide services before school, after school, or both.  During the school year, all-day service is provided for school holidays at no additional cost.
