911 --  Teach your children how to use 911

Teach your child how to use 911 in an emergency!  This could be one of the simplest -- and most important -- lessons you will ever teach your child.

911 is the number to call in the event of an emergency (nine one one, not nine eleven!).  An emergency is any event or occurrence that you think demands immediate action, or any condition endangering or thought to be endangering life or property.

The 911 operator will want to know the number you are calling from, your name, your address, and what the problem is.  Stay on the line to answer the operator's questions.

If there is a fire in your home, stay low and leave the house immediately.  Get help from a neighbor or find someone nearby who can call 911.

Never use 911 as a joke, or as a trivial or nuisance call.  Calling 911 is a serious matter!
