Pen Mar Park is one of the finest

Located on High Rock Road at the Mason Dixon Line in Cascade MD, at an altitude of 1400 feet, this site was selected in 1871 by the Western Maryland Railroad as the location for an amusement park. The park opened to the public in August 1877. It had a roller coaster, carousel, miniature train and railroad station, a dining hall that seated 450, and a huge dance pavilion. The band played for dancing each afternoon and evening, Monday through Saturday, and presented a concert each Sunday. The park attractions were dismantled in March 1943.

A new, reconstructed Pen Mar Park opened to the public in August 1980. Today, the dance pavilion has an induction loop system for the hearing impaired, and hundreds of people enjoy the Sunday afternoon dances with live music.

Pen Mar Park Summer Concerts

The music for the concerts is provided by The American Federation of Musicians Local 770, Hagerstown MD. The dance pavilion has an induction loop system for the hearing impaired. These free concerts are made possible thanks to the Washington County (MD) Commissioners, the Washington County Building, Grounds, and Parks Department, and donations by park patrons. As budgets remain tight, it is necessary to rely more and more on donations to keep the music alive. Your past and future donations are appreciated--THANK YOU!

The park address is 11400 Pen Mar High Rock Rd, Cascade MD 21719. Directions: from Waynesboro Center Square, go 2.7 miles East on PA Rte 16, go past Midvale light, at the "Y"-shaped intersection keep right onto Old Rte 16, at 3.1 miles turn right onto Pen Mar Rd, to Pen Mar Park at 5.2 miles.
