Tayamentasachta Environmental Center, 500 Leitersburg St, Greencastle, PA, near the schools complex, was established in 1966 to provide students with experiences in environmental education. Its name is a Native American word meaning "never ending waters or spring." The farmhouse-visitor center contains displays, exhibits, a library, and information on environmental issues and local history. The grounds are open to the public from dawn to dusk every day for hiking and other nature-related activities. Programs and workshops are scheduled throughout the year. 597-17225

Tuscarora Wildlife Education Project (TWEP), Charles Brightbill Environmental Center, Mercersburg PA, is a seasonal home to over 400 specimens of wildlife from North America, Africa, and Pennsylvania. The Center connects people to the environment by providing hands-on education about endangered species, Pennsylvania wildlife, rock study and classification, bird and small mammal life, and native plants. The program serves over 1500 students in the Tuscarora School District at no cost during the regular school year. The Center is open to the public during open houses held from 2 pm to 5 pm on the first Sunday of each month during the regular school year.
The Center is located at 4881 Fort Loudon Road in Mercersburg behind the campus of James Buchanan High School, about 20 miles from Waynesboro. Take PA Rte 16 West to Mercersburg. Bear right on PA Rte 75/416. At the "Y" of Rte 75 and 416, bear left onto Rte 75. Go 1/2 mile, watch for the entrance to James Buchanan High School on the left. TWEP is located at the rear of the campus.
