Parks and recreation serving Waynesboro include
Rock Run Recreation Area, Patton PA

Rock Run Recreation Area in Cambria and Clearfield counties is a 6,000-acre, multi-use, motorized recreation site for off-road enthusiasts in Chest Township, on land formerly owned by the K&J Coal Co.  It is one of the largest all terrain vehicle recreation areas East of the Mississippi.  The park is open to ATVs, snowmobiles, off-highway motorcycles, equestrians, hikers, mountain bikers, and for public hunting. The PA Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources has provided grants to the Cambria County Conservation and Recreation Authority for this project. Rock Run is located in western Pennsylvania, near Prince Gallitzin State Park, the Horseshoe Curve, Seldom Seem Tourist Coal Mine, the Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site, the Johnstown Flood Memorial, and numerous other sites.

Rock Run has a nearly endless network of more than 50 miles of well-marked trails for 2- and 4-wheelers and dirt bikes, with terrain suited to match all skill levels from leisurely family rides to more advanced black diamond trails.  The trails wind through a diverse topography of timbered ravines, open grasslands, pine groves, and scenic expanses overlooking the Allegheny Mountains.

Rock Run provides a safe, family-friendly environment for ATV and dirt bike riders.  Safety classes and DCNR certifications for responsible trail riding will be offered periodically.   Rock Run is also committed to an environmentally-sustainable trail system designed with the "Tread Lightly!" principles in mind.  These guidelines emphasize minimal impact on the land while protecting the many streams and waterways that flow through the recreation area.

When the site is fully developed it will have a total of 150 miles of trails, a campground, and other facilities--you will be able to spend an entire weekend riding an all-terrain vehicle, off-highway motorcycle, a mountain bike, camping, hiking, or riding horseback through the Appalachian Mountains.

Open hours.  Rock Run Recreation Area officially opened May 3, 2007.  The park is open on weekends in April, May, and October; Wednesday through Sunday in June through September.  The open hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. except in October then it is 9 a.m. to dusk.

Waiver forms, proof of registration, valid ID.  All riders must have a completed waiver form to use the park.  Due to high volumes of traffic, the park recommends that Adult and Minor Waivers available on the website be printed and completed before arriving at the park.  You must provide proof of valid ATV registration and a photo ID for anyone 16 or older.  Anyone without a photo ID must provide proof of age.

Admission fees.  A single day riding pass for an individual rider is $18.00; a pass for 3 consecutive days is $45.00.  Family, add-on, combination, and annual passes are available.  Park users who are not riders are admitted free.

Park authority.  The Cambria County [PA] Conservation & Recreation Authority owns the 6,000 acre tract of land and Rock Run Recreation Area; the park is managed under the authority of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  All profits go back into the build-out of the ATV park.

Location.  The park's address is 1228 St. Lawrence Rd, Patton PA, about four miles outside of Patton, northwest of Altoona.  Travel from Waynesboro is about 125 miles, 2-1/2 hours.
